Welcome to the Spatial Social Science Lab. We provide a collaborative environment for research and training on geography in the social sciences. We are interested in a broad range of social phenomena that unfold in geographic space. Some recent research topics include residential segregation, urban form, electoral geography, federal expenditures, ethnic politics, and legacies of colonialism. A current topic of interest is migration, especially within countries. We also do considerable research and policy work on redistricting and representation. We are beginning a collaborative relationship with the Metric Geometry and Gerrymandering Group (MGGR). Above all, we provide training and support for research that makes innovative use of geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial statistics in the social sciences.
