With generous support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRiSS) at Stanford, and in collaboration with our partners at Harvard, we have collected precinct-level election results for a variety of past elections in all U.S. states. In all states except Oregon, we have been able to geo-reference these data, allowing users to map the results and link them with block-group-level census data. The data and documentation can be downloaded from the Harvard Election Data Archive.

In collaboration with ESRI, we have used these data to create an interactive online visualization tool for the 2008 election called the Stanford Election Atlas. For more documentation, click here. We are helping with efforts to collect similar data for more recent U.S. elections, and we intend to produce geo-coded precinct-level data sets for a variety of European elections as well.
